ARTIST’S PROFILE

Julie Wijckmans @juliewijckmans is a graphic designer and writer based in Antwerp. After years designing for the Belgian newspaper De Standaard, she’s now creating her own stories. Her debut novel, a work of literary autofiction, interweaves personal experience, psychological insight, and social reflection. It’s a book about surviving the breaking point — not in a dramatic, heroic way, but through the small, often messy and absurd steps by which we begin to live again. Her book will be published in Dutch by Pelckmans in April 2026.

“During the residency, I will focus on writing — continuing the second half of my manuscript while revising earlier chapters. Based in Belgium, I usually write amidst freelance work and daily obligations, so a slower, quieter rhythm would be invaluable. The residency would offer the spaciousness I need — physically and mentally — to work not harder, but deeper, allowing the book’s emotional material to unfold with more care and ease“
