ARTIST’S PROFILE

Cho Hwaran (b.1994, Korea) is a visual artist working with hanji paper, sumi ink, natural pigments, and Western media. Her ongoing Alveolus series visualizes the invisible rhythm of breathing, exploring balance and the subtle resonance of life. She has presented her work internationally, with a solo exhibition Breath Without Purpose (Yiyeha, Seoul, 2025), group shows at EM Gallery (Seoul, 2025), and participation in art fairs such as Tokyo Gendai, Terada Art Fair (Tokyo, 2025), and KIAF Seoul (Seoul, 2025). She was also part of the Pilotenkueche Art Residency in Leipzig, Germany (2024).

“During the residency, I will further develop my Alveolus series, exploring breath as both a personal rhythm and a shared space. I also intend to experiment with creating pigments directly from natural materials, as breath ultimately connects us to nature. Moving beyond traditional Eastern and Western media, I aim to integrate colors sourced from nature into my work, expanding the dialogue on invisible exchanges—breath, balance, and emotion—in a new and experimental way.
